27.1 Opening the Dictionary of Astronomy
To open the Dictionary of Astronomy, click the Dictionary button in the Dossier tab of the Home window or choose Dictionary in the Information menu. You can also reach related Dictionary articles by clicking any words which are highlighted in blue or underlined in the Photo Gallery, the Object Info window, Record Breakers, and elsewhere.

27.2 Using the dictionary

Click one of the letters at the top of the Dictionary window to view the corresponding contents page, then click any heading to view the article.


Underlined words or phrases in articles denote cross-references. When the cursor passes over a cross-reference, it changes to a hand. Click the cross reference to get a pop-up list of all available links. Choose a link to view a related Dictionary article, a page from the Photo Gallery, open an Object Info window or to change current settings in the sky window to point at or locate on an object.
27.3 Dictionary controls  Click the Back and Forward buttons at the top of the Dictionary window to view articles you opened previously.

  « and » take you to the next and previous articles in the Dictionary.

 Click Content to browse through the Dictionary headings.

 Click Print to print the current article.

  Click History to display a list of articles you have accessed.

Select the name of an article then click the Go to button (or double click on the article name) to return to an article.

 You can change the size of the fonts used in the window by repeatedly clicking the Font button.

27.4 Searching the Dictionary
 Click Find to search for a heading in the Dictionary.

This opens the find dialog with the Dictionary of Astronomy index selected. Enter the first few letters in the Search field to jump to the nearest word in the index. Then click List Links and click OK.
